Serving Harris County

Friends of the Harris County Library was founded in 2007 by a group of Harris County community members with the mission of fostering early childhood literacy within the county and supporting the educational and enrichment programs of our public library.

In support of early literacy, we partner with Ferst Readers, a non-profit Georgia organization that mails books on a monthly basis to children under the age of five at no cost to the registered family.  As a non-profit organization, Friends raises the funds to cover the $42 per-year-per-child mailing costs. For more information and/or to enroll a children in the program, click here.

Scattered throughout Harris County are Friends’ Little Town Libraries. Anyone can pick up a book to read or leave a book for someone to find. These Little Libraries are currently located in Ellerslie, Pine Mountain, Sunnyside, Shiloh, and Waverly Hall.

Helping Hands

Ask about our volunteer opportunities! Volunteers are needed to help with book sales, fundraising events, member recruitment, stewards for Little Town Libraries and other exciting jobs. Let us know if you want to help!

Invest in an Educated Population

For $42 a year, you can adopt a reader and make an impact on our community. Or, you may select another giving level that will, in addition to adopting a reader, help cover costs for educational and enrichment programs facilitated by the Harris County Public Library. We value all supporters and thank you for helping with our mission.
